High-level use cases

In the latest months, the partners involved in WP2 – ‘Country specific challenges, use cases definition and tools requirements’, under the leadership of EIFER, managed to identify the social, environmental, and technical challenges related to sector integration and decarbonization of the energy systems in 5 target countries in the European Union.

Additionally, 5 interaction schemes between TSO and DSO have been examined and interestingly, the least-cost scenario resulted from the simulations carried out within SENERGY NETS, is the one in which the ‘day ahead market’ is solved first, then there is a common auction, then there are two real time auctions in which only distribution sources are allowed to solve congestion management in distribution, and transmission resources are allowed to solve congestion management in transmission and balancing (so there is no support from distribution to transmission).

Finally, WP2 managed to identify 12 high-level use cases (HLUCs) to be tested on the demo-sites (pilots) and follow-up cases studies, which space from DHC optimization, to DSO operational planning, energy system decarbonization, flexibility provision from MES to different actors, and many more.
